Air Quality Testing Services

Our air quality testing services cover mold, asbestos, formaldehyde and musty odours in homes and commercial buildings across Ontario and Quebec. An inspector takes the samples, an accredited third-party lab reads them, and you get a written report. Right now you may only have a smell, a stain or a ceiling you’re about to scrape.

You don’t need to know which test you need before you call. Working that out is the first thing we do, and sometimes the answer is no test at all.

The right air quality testing service depends on what you’re worried about

Mother and toddler playing on the living room floor at home

Residential air quality testing

A musty basement, a cough that clears when you leave, an older house before a renovation. We test homes for mold and asbestos and put the answer in writing.

Commercial air quality testing

Offices, shops, schools and warehouses. You get a written report you can hand to a property manager, an insurer or an OHS inspector.

Mold testing

A smell, a stain or water damage that dried slowly. We sample the air inside and outside, and an accredited lab counts and names the spores.

Asbestos testing

About to cut, sand or demolish in a building from before 1990? We sample each suspect material, and a lab reports the type and percentage of asbestos.

Odour inspection

A musty smell you can’t place usually means moisture and hidden mold somewhere. We sample the air, and an accredited lab tells us what’s there.

What to expect during an inspection

From the first phone call to the lab report, here’s how a visit works, how long it takes, and what you get at the end.

But an air quality test only settles it if someone independent reads the sample

The analyst reading your sample has never met you and has no work to sell you. That’s why we send every sample to an accredited third-party lab, whichever service you book.

On the phone, I ask what you noticed and where. With those two answers I can usually tell you which test fits, or whether you need one at all.

Even so, an air quality test has limits, and we’ll tell you when you don’t need one

A test answers the question it was booked for, and no other.

Myth An air quality test checks for everything.

Fact Each test looks for one thing. A mold air sample won’t show asbestos in a ceiling, and an asbestos sample won’t show mold in a wall.

Myth Any mold means I need a lab test.

Fact Health Canada says that in most situations it does not recommend testing the air for mould. A small patch with a known water source needs cleaning and a repair. Unexplained concerns after a flood or a leak are where a test helps.

Myth The report will say my air is safe.

Fact Canada has no health-based exposure limit for indoor mould. We compare your rooms with the air outside, and for health questions you’d bring the report to your doctor.
